I have earlier expressed the surprise about how quickly Skype became slow after Microsofts takeover, I am talking about the mobile version, and iPhone 3G, but still how is it possible?
I have also quite recently found out, the hard way by loosing a very long post, that blogger app does not autosave. So I have expressed some irritation about google too, what happened to never loose your data thing, anyway...
Now it is Apples turn, and this is about their mac mini, I got the cheapest model at work, they figured, that it's good enough. Yes to some extent it is their fault as well, but what is apple doing selling a computer with only 2Gig of RAM? That box was so slow I had to wrestle with that beach ball for 10 minutes to open a new tab is Safari. Well perhaps I am exaggerating a bit, but that damn thing was barely usable. All that was quickly sorted out by throwing in 8Gig of RAM, now is a pleasure to use it. The point is still though that RAM did cost about $70, Apple could probably get it cheaper, and yet they sell computers with 2Gig ram today when RAM is so cheap! Not only that but the computer beach-balls all the time from swapping shit in and out of RAM because it is too damn little for the OS.
The point is this, if your OS X (10.7) barely runs on 2Gig of RAM, don't sell computers with 2Gig of ram. That mac mini is sufficient for my work now, but before the RAM upgrade I just wanted to throw it out of the window and yell at someone at Apple. That beach ball actually made me feel frustrated all the time during work. And if Apples tries to be user friendly and promotes pleasant user experience, that is a bad thing.
And for you out there reading this thinking about buying a Mac with only 2Gig RAM, just buy at lest 4Gig, but RAM is so cheap now if you buy it not from apple but any other store and replace it your self that you can probably afford 8Gig it will be a totally different experience.
And to Apple, if by some miracle some one at Apple would ever read this, don't be so stingy, put 4Gig RAM in there by default, it is time, it is 2012 now, besides your OS can't handle less anyway, at least not with dignity.
